Over the past several years, North Lonsdale has been fortunate to be able to welcome an increasing number of newcomers from Iran into our congregation. Last year at this time, we consulted them to identify meaningful ways that we might acknowledge and celebrate their culture at North Lonsdale. The result was our first-ever celebration of Nowruz, which translates as “New Day”. This important event, which marks the beginning of Spring and the Iranian new year, has been celebrated for over 3000 years. This year, on Sunday, March 17, we were blessed to be able to celebrate Nowruz for the second time. Sincere thanks to Ashi Hosseini and friends for their contributions, both during the service and downstairs during coffee time (note the delicious homemade treats in the photo below)! "We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our friends in the church for embracing us as part of the family and allowing us to celebrate Nowruz together. For us, it felt like celebrating with our family."
