Canadian Cancer Society 10TH ANNUAL Relay For Life
North Lonsdale United Church Team 2011
Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. It is held in communities across Canada every year. In North Vancouver, it will take place on Saturday June 11, 2011 from 10am to 10pm at Mahon Park. It is a non-competitive relay walk or run around the track and a day of fun which includes entertainment for all ages. It is an opportunity to get together with family and friends to CELEBRATE cancer survivors, REMEMBER and honour loved ones lost to cancer, and FIGHT BACK in the hope of finding a cure.
North Lonsdale United Church has supported this event for 9 years. Team members include survivors of the disease, those who have seen the effects the disease has on their friends and families, and those who want to help in some small way by collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Your participation helps the Canadian Cancer Society to fund research on all types of cancer, provide information about cancer care and treatment, offer support to people living with cancer, prevent cancer through healthy lifestyles and risk reduction strategies, and advocate for public policies to reduce the burden of cancer.
For 2011, we are recruiting members, so please consider joining the team! In addition to having FUN, as a team member, you are expected to:
- raise a minimum of $100 in donations either through the online tool, or cash/cheques from your friends, families, colleagues, neighbours etc….
- participate in the planning and execution of the team “FUN”draising events.
- spend all or part of Saturday June 11 at Mahon Park having fun at the event!
“FUN”draising events for 2011 currently planned:
February 13 (Sunday)- Bake Sale after church
March 26 (Saturday)– hot dog and coffee sale at the NLUC Garage Sale
April 9 (Saturday) – Movie Night
April 17 (Sunday) – Bake Sale after church
May 13 (Friday) - Fashion Show at NLUC auditorium
June 1 (Wednesday) – Pub Night with silent auction
Registration for the NLUC 2011 Relay for Life Team is currently open. Go to www.cancer.ca/relay and follow the prompts to register for the North Lonsdale United Church team.
If you are not able to commit to joining the team, please consider supporting the NLUC team by participating in our “FUN”draising events, and pledging a team member. Tax receipts are issued for charitable donations over $20 by the Canadian Cancer Society.
Everybody is invited to attend the relay event on Saturday June 11, 2011. New this year is a NLUC chili cook off for the mid day meal at the NLUC “campsite”.
