Inglewood Lodge Hymn Sing
Usually scheduled for the second Sunday afternoon of the month, this mission to the eld-erly residents of the Inglewood Care Facility is now in its seventh year. Depending upon what else is going on, the events attract 25-45 resi-dents. At a typical hymn sing there are 3-6 volunteers from the congregation who sit or wan-der among the residents to make sure they have the right hymn, are on the right verse, and so on. The most important contribution they make – and it is a very significant one – is to take the op-portunity to chat a little. The residents have lived a lot and have great memories to share. (They also have worries and fears.)
At a typical hymn sing we work through nine favourites from Inglewood’s own hymn book, with Joan Wilkins accompanying with her customary skill, while her husband Geoff leads the singing and talks a little about the hymns and about how they speak to our faith.
