We hope that you will join us over the summer! Come, relax and enjoy the worship, the message and the company. New this summer! Look for activity bins stationed at the entrance of the sanctuary. Children and youth are welcome to choose any of the activity packs to bring into the service with them.

BOOK BIN – A changing selection of colouring, sticker and story books

BUSY PACKS – Themed activity packs for primary ages

CHALLENGE PACKS – activity packs for youth

Nursery Option: We love to have babies, young children and families in our service! Parents with young children are also welcome to visit the nursery to relax or play there if they prefer. Our nursery room has a TV monitor viewing of the service and is down the stairs beside the Duncan Hall. Ask one of our hosts to show you the way!

Nick and his team of various singers/instrumentalists will continue to lead all aspects of music. Many thanks to all.

Relay for Life is a community based fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. It is held in communities across Canada every year. In North Vancouver, it takes place on a Saturday in June from 10am to 10pm at Mahon Park. North Lonsdale United Church has supported this event for 8 years and has raised approximately $13,000 each year for the Canadian Cancer Society. Team members include survivors of the disease, those who have seen the effects the disease has on their friends and families, and those who want to help in some small way by collecting pledges and donations.

During this non-competitive fun-filled event, teams of people gather and take turns walking or running laps around the track. Each team is asked to at least have one member of your team on the track at all times throughout the event. Throughout the day there are activities, music, BBQ’s and lots of fun! Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the fun even if they are not a member of a team.

Funds raised through Relay For Life support the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of Canadians living with cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society has more impact in more communities against more cancers than any other cancer organization.

Money is raised through pledges to team members, and FUNdraising events. The Canadian Cancer Society uses these funds for:

There will be shoeboxes available this Sunday for anyone to take home and fill with items for children in need in South/Central America and West Africa.

For more information on this program please visit www.samaritanspurse.ca, a Christian international relief organization. The turnaround time for this project is short. We are asking that boxes be returned to the church by Nov 15, so boxes can be delivered to the collection centre during that week. Alternatively, if you wish to bring items to the church, the children will be packaging items in boxes on Sunday Nov 8.

If packing a shoebox, please label whether it intended for a boy or girl, and with the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.

A variety of the following items is suggested:

School supplies: e.g. pencils, pens, pencil crayons, notepads, picture books

Toys and other gifts: e.g. stuffed animals, small musical instruments, hair clips, toy jewelry, t-shirts, socks, and candy (loose, individually wrapped , hard candy in a sealable bag).

Hygiene items: please place soap in a sealable bag.

A personal note and/or photo can be included in the shoebox, if you wish.

It is asked that you do not include: toothpaste, food, chewy/crumbly/soft candy, gum, used items, decks of playing cards, liquids or items that could leak, melt, freeze or break, or items that could scare or harm a child.

In addition to the items, an optional donation is suggested, in order to cover project costs (including shipping). $7 is a suggested amount and donations can be included in an envelope in the box (cash or cheque) and can also be made online.

We are offering you, our North Lonsdale congregation, and through you our wider community, an opportunity to revisit/test/question/explore/celebrate the roots of our faith. This will be in the form of a brand new Alpha course! I have ordered a set of the revised material and must say that it looks very good. Why not join us? This would also be an excellent opportunity to invite that buddy/neighbour/family member with all those questions to come along as well.

We will be meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd, to explore what it will involve, before beginning the course the following week, from Wednesday Sept 30th. The course will run each Wednesday night for 10 weeks until Dec 2nd. We will begin with dinner at 6.00pm, enjoy input (multimedia, live etc) from 6.45pm, interact at our tables as well as within the group as a whole, and end by 9.00pm. The cost of dinner as well as of all material is by donation.

If you feel at all interested in joining us, or even that you may enjoy being a table facilitator, please to let me know. Absolutely no previous knowledge or experience is necessary – just an openness and willingness to care about others as we question/challenge/explore our faith – oh yes, as well as being committed to having a really good time together as we grow!
