Sunday School
The Sunday School had a slightly low-key but stable year in 2007-2008. Our registration numbers remained at about 40, with an average of 20 children attending each week, including some new families joining our "regulars.” The children’s ministry team was led again by Judy Clarke with Joyce Bauer, Sue Crawley, Glen Elliott, and Sarah Nowland all returning to teach. We also welcomed Clare Stedman as a new teacher later in the year.
This year, we began a new program called Seasons of the Spirit. This United Church curriculum was lectionary-based, meaning that our lessons followed the same scriptures as the adult worship, allowing for families to share in a related message each week.
We worked in the more traditional model of three age groups this year. Sarah Nowland and Joyce Bauer led our youngest children. Glen Elliott began the year teaching the grade 2, 3, and 4 class, with Clare Stedman taking over later in the year. Sue Crawley took on the challenge of our grade 5-7’s. This oldest group followed the curriculum but shared in special activities designed to suit their "not-quite-youth-group” status.
At Christmas, the children participated in the annual play/pageant in the sanctuary, held this year on the Sunday before Christmas. For our Christmas mission project, we donated "stocking stuffers” (and more) to the Salvation Army hamper program. This year, we also made and delivered cards to Inglewood Lodge for Easter and Mothers’Day.
As always, those of us in this ministry hope that the children of our church feel God’s love through us as we seek to nurture their faith in a warm, welcoming atmosphere
