Spiritual Leadership Group – strong and committed Spiritual Leadership Group, which meets regularly for fellowship, prayer and discernment, with the goal of understanding God’s vision for the church.

  • Holds regular meetings for discernment and spiritual growth.
  • Seeks regular participation from any member or adherent who is interested in discerning God’s vision and guiding the spiritual direction of the church
  • Is not ‘constituency-based’.
  • Is not elected by the congregation.
  • Makes recommendations to the Board regarding spiritual direction.
  • Interfaces actively with the congregation on both a formal and informal basis to communicate the vision and develop interest in spiritual leadership.
  • Develops interest in church leadership generally and provides a succession function for Board leadership.

Church Board – formal governance body of the church:

  • Small and efficient body to operationalize and support the spiritual goals of the church.
  • Voting membership includes:
    • Officers – Chair, Vice Chair, Past Chair, Treasurer & Secretary.
    • Ex official Members – member
    • Corresponding Members – may be called upon as needed; e.g. Presbytery Representative, Board of Trustees Representative.
    • Other Elected Members – limited number of individuals who are committed to participating in this aspect of leadership.
  • Meetings are open to members and adherents who may wish to attend, but without voting privileges.
  • Is elected annually by the congregation at the ACM and is accountable to the congregation.
  • Meets regularly (though not necessarily frequently)1 and ad-hoc to fulfill its obligations.
  • Maintains appropriate records and formal minutes of all meetings and operational decisions.
  • Reviews and approves church policies.
  • Committee members / chairs may participate from time to time on their own initiative or at the invitation of the Board to deal with matters requiring Board input or awarenes.
  • Regular turnover of members is encouraged (e.g. maximum 3 year term).
